Unity in Art is a principle where the elements of art are used or placed to create a wholesomeness resulting in Unity in the artwork’s composition. Painting monochromatically can hit the mark in getting balance in a painting. An example of unity in art is visual indications of time and place in the theatre. the 'grammar' applied to the elements of art- contrast, balance, unity, variety, rhythm, emphasis, pattern, scale, proportion, and focal point. This will give an overall zippiness to the work. When everything is in balance, it creates a feeling of peace and serenity. This can be referring to a physical space, such as a room, or it can be referring to a more abstract concept, such as a community. If you’re doing a mostly green tree painting and you want it to sing from the top of the hill, use a rose-coloured wash to start. What is unity and harmony Unity and harmony can be defined as a state of being where everything is in agreement and in balance. If you want the painting to be loud and proud, use a colour that is opposite to the overall painting for a little pop and zip! For example, if you want a quiet pastoral scene, the use of a blue wash will create a calming effect and bring a balanced sense of calm throughout. If you want the painting to be sensitive, use a wash of something similar to the overall sense of the piece.
